Just a stone’s throw from Bardouly, our retreat centre in Southwest France, Bergerac has been haloed recently with a UNESCO World Heritage classification and labelled a City of Art and History. Situated on the banks of the Dordogne River, the 1000 year old city is amazingly preserved and has a long and storied history. Our perfect day in Bergerac? First stop at the local open market with all manner of produce, cheese, and crafts on offer. Take a tour through the ‘old town’ and marvel and the architecture (and perhaps a stop or two at some of the antique shops). Leisurely luncheon al fresco at L’Imparfait. Next stop the Musee de la Ville, built on the ruins of an ancient cloister and housing artifacts of the city’s history. A perfect end to the day is a sunset cruise on a traditional ‘gabarre’ down the Dordogne River.
One of many wonderful days’ out on your holiday in France.
